AFIs in the News

The domestic onslaught in the Chinese EV market

Just finished reading this piece “Chinese EV-makers are leaving Western rivals in the dust” in The Economist. According to The Economist “tech-obsessed Chinese buyers who are shunning Teslas in favour of cleverer, cheaper local alternatives.” Cleverer and cheaper local alternatives are nothing but Advanced Frugal Products. Clearly Advanced Frugal Innovations or Advanced frugal products (AFIs) are clever products that are frugal in their resource-consumption and costs but do not sacrifice on quality. Frugal innovations have come a long way from their humble origins and the current avatar of an AFI leverages the best of science and engineering to wring out excesses while giving more in terms of quality!

India, followed by China, is a pioneer in AFIs which need the best of engineering to make this possible. The global North has to take cues on AFIs since this is going to be the future.
